Fun Facts

A fun fact about me is that I am a complete news junkie. In high school, I competed in Extemporaneous Speaking- which involves quickly thinking of speeches that respond to current events-based questions. I had to read tons of articles and publications, but now I feel disconnected if I do not know what is going on everywhere in the world. I am not complete without the New York Times in hand.

I'm beginning full-time work as a writer and digital communications specialist at a NYC-based nonprofit.

Experience

My tutoring experience spans many ages and subjects and includes:
-tutoring a 7th grader bi-weekly for a year in all subjects and standardized test prep
-tutoring 2nd grade students at a public school in Harlem with reading and writing for a year
-tutoring 5-17 year old students in Bolivia with all subjects for a month
-teaching fundamental phonetics, reading, and word recognition skills to low-income preschool students in East Harlem for a year, receiving training from the non-profit Jumpstart

Approach

I love meeting people and understanding them. I believe every individual should be valued, so as a tutor I try to identify a student's unique strengths, struggles, perspectives, and learning styles. Ultimately, I keep empathy as my main guide in the tutoring process. There is a conversation going on, and we are working together towards a solution rather than me simply giving answers or a specific, unquestionable process of doing something. I also seek to be accessible not just as a tutor but as
