Fun Facts

I am a huge nerd. Not even the secret kind - like, the right-out-in-the-open, unabashed kind of nerd. I love comic books, superhero movies, animated shows, science fiction, cosplay, and hanging out at the library. I read about 3 novels and 2 or 3 graphic novels every month. When I'm not busy nerding it up, I like to cook (awesomely), sing (sorta okay), dance (badly), and generally goof off. I'm starting grad school this fall and plan to focus on Food Politics, which involves far less eating than

About Me

I have recently been accepted into wayne-state-university">Wayne State University's graduate school, and will be starting in the English MA program this fall (2014). I attained my Bachelor of Arts in English from Wayne State in 2013. My major GPA is 3.59, and my overall GPA is 3.52. I am both a Board of Governor's and Michigan Merit Award scholarship winner. My long-term goal is to teach students at the college level, and to research and write about my specific field of study - food politics in literature.

I have worked, both formally and informally, as a detroit">tutor for many years. I worked as a paid detroit">tutor for a 4th grader in subjects ranging from reading-comprehension/michigan/detroit">reading comprehension to math for over a year. I have also organized several study groups during my high school and college years, including a very successful weekly biology study group that led to me being hired in as a laboratory assistant for that same class during the next semester. Most of my detroit">tutoring experience has come from helping friends and classmates struggling with reading-comprehension/michigan/detroit">reading comprehension and writing. My strengths as an editor can be very useful to students struggling with essay writing - thesis building, outlining, research, citations, spelling, and grammar are all areas I feel I excel at.

As someone who suffered with social anxiety throughout most of grade school, I realize now that a relaxed, comfortable, and fun environment can be a great learning tool. I feel like students simply learn better when they feel accepted and cared for. That is why I treat my detroit">tutoring sessions as a judgment free zone - all ideas are welcome, as long as they are presented respectfully.
