Fun Facts

Hi! I am a science nerd with a special passion for environmental sciences and marine biology. I have a strong background in biological sciences and love to teach at all levels. I am a big traveler and have spent many years abroad studying different aspect of marine biology in places like Panama, Australia, and the Caribbean. When I'm not teaching you can find me surfing, volunteering for protected species or painting! Science illustration is a huge passion of mine.

About Me

I am a Marine Science Instructor and field biologist and graduated in 2018 from UC Berkeley with a degree in Conservation & Resource Studies with a focus in Environmental Biology. I love to study plants, corals, whales, and most other forms of life on this plane. I hope to pursue a PhD in marine sciences soon as well as a graduate degree in Science Illustration, where I can then mix art and science as means to communicating pressing issues facing our environment.

Experience

I have over 2 years experience working as an outdoor instructor for a number of different science programs. I have taught biology at elementary school level at the UC Botanical Garden as well as spent time in French Polynesia as a Marine Naturalist on board a cruise ship teaching people of all ages about biology. I worked with middle school-high school students as a Marine Science Instructor for over a year in San Diego, teaching engaging labs on topics from invertebrates to marine mammals.

Approach

While in college, I took a course called Communicating Ocean Sciences that transformed my approach to teaching. At the heart of it lies passion for science that I share with the students I work with and from there we work to build a dynamic space that reflects inclusivity, creativity and true understanding of concepts rather than simply memorization. I work with each student on an individual level to understand their unique approach to learning and adapting my teaching style to help them learn.
