Fun Facts
I grew up on an organic farm in rural Missouri and love to be outside. Here next to the Sandia mountains, you’ll find me out camping, hiking with my foster dog, Chancho, and slacklining in the parks any time of year! Travel is important to me and my next dream trip is to bike-pack around central Europe. Here locally, I also play and coach water polo and enjoy elaborate board games with friends.
About Me
I am a recent psychology graduate from Carleton college and will be entering graduate school at Adams State University in the fall of 2020. I have worked for the past year as an Educational Assistant in a HS education/new-mexico/albuquerque">special education program in Albuquerque, NM. I loved the job and now that our state has officially closed public schools for the remainder of the school year, I am looking forward to working with students again online and in-person, if possible. I love to learn and to teach others.
Experience
Throughout middle and high school I was actively involved in every academic and leadership opportunity I could find, from state math competitions to studying abroad in Costa Rica. In college, I volunteered with local schools, from 1st grade ESL to high school art and environmentalism clubs. I also worked at Camp Ramago for children with special needs and, since graduation, have worked in a education/new-mexico/albuquerque">special education classroom for grades 9-12. I know how to make lessons fun and get creative!
Approach
From homeschooling to collegiate rigor, I have always loved learning and sharing that passion with others. I want to offer students encouragement as well as creative challenge. I learn so much myself from teaching and I believe the learning process should always be collaborative and adaptable. My students should always feel comfortable to ask questions and know that there is meaning behind everything they are asked to do. Learning is a lifelong endeavor, so it ought to be fun and fulfilling!
