Fun Facts
Although I am a science major, I also love to study English. In my free time, I enjoy reading new books, and my favorite author is Jane Austen. Besides reading, I also love to play the violin, and have been playing since I was nine years old. I have one younger sister and we are very close. Last summer, I visited Spain for the first time for a study abroad program, and I fell in love with the country. I hope to visit again soon!
About Me
I am an incoming senior studying Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish Language and Literature at Loyola University in Chicago. I am on the pre-medical path, so my goal is to attend medical school and work as a doctor in the field of neurology in the future.
Experience
As a volunteer at the Loyola Literacy Center, I tutor people that are looking to better their English-speaking and writing skills. Those that I tutor are all at different mastery levels, so I have become an expert at modifying curricula to suit the learner. I have been doing this for two years now. This past fall, I also tutored a class of high school students in Chicago to prepare them for standardized tests, like the SAT.
Approach
In high school, I discovered that I had a problem with my science classes. I would understand the material being taught but I could not retain it very well. One of my biology teachers helped me tackle this problem by changing the way I study, and my results dramatically improved. This is why I believe in the individualized approach to tutoring. It is my responsibility to determine the best way a student learns so that we can attack their weaknesses and build on their strengths to see success!

Biology I Tutoring
As an upperclassman on the pre-med track, I have already taken and successfully completed many biology courses. Some of the courses I have taken include General Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, and Neurobiology. Having a younger sister that recently took Biology and would ask me for help also allowed me to build on my methods for tutoring someone in this subject area.
Psychology Tutoring
As a neuroscience major, psychology is a really important foundation for what I am learning, which means that I have to be really strong in the subject in order to move forward. In high school, I took an AP Psych course and aced my AP exam which allowed me to test out of the college-level foundational course that my major required. Since then, I have taken courses that all have psychology embedded in them, such as Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience, and Sensation and Perception. I am also currently studying for the MCAT, which contains a psychology section, so the information is fresh in my mind.
Spanish I Tutoring
As a Spanish minor, I have taken many courses that have allowed me to build on my Spanish-speaking and writing skills. These courses include Spanish Conversation and Comprehension, Spanish Literary Analysis I and II, Hispanic Women Writers, and I plan on taking a Contemporary Spanish-American novel class in the Fall. I also had the opportunity to study abroad last summer, and I stayed with a host family only being allowed to speak Spanish!
