Fun Facts
One passion people know about me is my love for music. I play in two bands in Austin, TX. I'm working on a children's book with my younger sister, who is a medical student.
About Me
I am a certified classroom teacher. This is my seventh year of teaching. I am an alumnus of Johns Hopkins and UMass Amherst. I also play in two bands in Austin, TX. I am currently working towards my Academic Language Therapy certification, so I am learning the advanced skills required to teach students with dyslexia effectively. My ultimate goal is to get into administration to help close the achievement gap.
Experience
As a reading specialist at Rawson Saunders School, I have a lot of experience creating individualized lessons for small groups or even one student. I taught music at KIPP Austin Academy of Arts and Letters, eventually becoming the head of the Fine Arts Department. I first got into education through Teach for America, fourth grade in Hawaii.
Approach
As a kid, I often did not connect with what we were learning in school. I did well enough in my classes but did not apply myself. When I got to high school, I had a teacher named Mr. Bourque who encouraged me to strive for more. He recognized the potential I had to be a teacher. Now that I am an educator myself my goal is to be a Mr. Bourque for as many students as possible, to help students find joy in learning and to expect more from themselves.
