Fun Facts
My hobby is macrophotography (close up pictures) of small organisms (insects, spiders, snails, etc.). I loving being outside and taking time to appreciate the details of nature that are often overlooked.
About Me
I am a PhD student at the University of North Texas, Denton. I study how aquatic contaminants move through ecosystems, specifically mercury contamination of the food webs in and around human-made ponds. I received my Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in biology from Texas Christian University. My ultimate goal is to teach college level courses.
Experience
I have been a teaching assistant for 3 college-level labs: Biology I, Biology II, and Environmental Science for Non-Majors. I have previously tutored students of all ages and learning levels. I enjoy working one-on-one with students when I can, even when instructing larger college labs. Sometimes I learn more through tutoring than I did in classes because it challenges me to think about different ways to explain a topic.
Approach
I have always loved learning and sharing my knowledge with others. My approach is to help students realize that they can understand and master a topic through creative approaches to a subject. I pull from a students existing knowledge and/or interests to help them learn a concept. As a tutor, my goal is not only guide the student towards the correct answer, but also build critical thinking skills that allow them to apply that knowledge in the future.
