About Loyola University Maryland
Loyola University Maryland is a private Jesuit university rooted in the liberal arts tradition. Founded in 1852 by the Society of Jesus, it is among the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions, known for offering a rigorous academic program balanced with the spiritual and social development of its students. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the university is situated in a beautiful urban setting, conveniently placed within the city to offer students a wealth of opportunities for internships, jobs, and cultural experiences, while also being in close proximity to other major city entities such as the Inner Harbor and Johns Hopkins University.
On campus, Loyola University Maryland is home to three main academic entities: the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, and the Sellinger School of Business and Management, all known for their academic excellence and commitment to ethics and social responsibility. As of my knowledge cutoff in 2023, the university enrolls around 4,000 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students, offering personalized attention and a student-to-faculty ratio conducive to individual academic success. It is also well-supported by a network of tutors and other academic resources aimed at enhancing the educational experience. Loyola's mascot, the Greyhound, embodies the school spirit, which is actively celebrated at various athletic and community events.
The university boasts a number of distinguished alumni who have excelled in various fields including business, law, journalism, sports, and more. Notable among them are Tom Clancy, the famed author of thriller novels; Mark Bowden, journalist and writer known for "Black Hawk Down"; and Michael D. Griffin, former NASA Administrator. Loyola University Maryland's commitment to the Jesuit tradition fosters an environment that not only pushes for academic achievement but also places a strong emphasis on ethics, service, and leadership, all of which prepares its graduates to be men and women for and with others.
