Fun Facts
Music is a hobby of mine, of which I have not taken any training in. I prefer to play drums or guitar but also play a little bass guitar. Of the three children my parents had I am the youngest. A past hobby of mine that I still enjoy thoroughly is skateboarding. Although I am not as good as I once was, many great memories were made while skating with my friends.
About Me
I am currently seeking a Bachelor's of Arts in Education with a major in mathematics and a minor in physics from wayne-state-university">Wayne State University in Detroit. I am little more than three quarters of the way done with my program (that's a bit more than 75% for those of you that are curious) and have been on the Dean's List for three years now. My goal is to one day become a middle school or high school mathematics teacher and possibly attend graduate school in order to become a professor in either education or mathematics.
My detroit">tutoring experience started very modestly, as I helped acquaintances and friends in mathematics that they were struggling with. As part of my education degree I helped with after school detroit">tutoring at a local high school for one semester, which was swiftly followed by another semester of holding my own after school detroit">tutoring sessions within the same school. In a matter of a couple months, I will be working in a mathematics classroom half a day for five days a week. The subjects I have tutored consisted of the topics algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, AP calculus, calculus I, and calculus II.
Having been part of the education program for the past few years, I am aware of the methods in mathematics that work. These include such ideas as constructivism, problem-based learning, and teaching proper reading strategies within mathematical contents. Constructivism says students do not have blank minds that can simply be given information; rather, students have preconceived notions on subjects. As an educator it is my job to find out what these notions are, whether they are correct, and if incorrect what can be done to change these ideas. Problem-based learning will give students the ability of high-order thinking skills, reflection, and communication of subject matter. And lastly, mathematical reading is very condensed and highly symbolical, thus putting it into a category of its own. There are many strategies that I am aware of to help con
