Fun Facts
I love to read, write, exercise, do fun math problems, and play word games. I play three instruments and have been a part of an athletic team throughout my entire academic career since middle school. I am the youngest of three children and the youngest of all my grandparents' grandchildren. Due to this I have received advice from some of everyone in my family and I am always willing to learn from other's experiences and I am accepting of feedback and new means of learning.
About Me
I am an extremely honest, athletic, hard working, and a friendly person. I played varsity basketball for four years in high school and I rowed for the Novice Women's Rowing Team for my first two years of college. I can say that due to my athletic training I have great leader initiative skills, and I also have great communication and team work skills. I am extremely passionate about teaching because I love to learn and I love helping others find joy from learning.
I primarily attend the University of Michigan and my major is Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. However, I was initially accepted to the school of education at the University of Michigan and I initially thought I would major in secondary education. Due this fact I have taken many courses and jobs related to helping educate students. My most recent job was at America Reads which is a program geared towards helping young students become more comfortable with reading, writing, and building overall comprehension skills. I also babysat I a young student last summer and was required to use my detroit">tutoring experience to assist him in his studies.
At America Reads we created lessons plans for each time we met with our tutees and then our lesson plans were reviewed by our team leader. In my approach to detroit">tutoring I try to create a lesson plan that best suits my tutees' needs. I do this by assessing their strengths and weaknesses and I also find out what are their interests. I try to use my tutees' strengths and interests to help facilitate their learning. I also try to use all relevant information in the tutee's memory bank to allow my tutee to draw connections to the lesson that I am trying to help him/her understand better. In every situation I try to help my tutee understand the concept and not just how to go through the steps of solving a problem.
