Fun Facts
I enjoy learning new information because one of my favorite activities is playing trivia. I play soccer for an outdoor league in Detroit in both Fall and Summer. I also enjoy playing tennis, basketball, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, fowling, baseball, and skiing. Since meeting my wife, I have become a more active traveler. In the near future, I am looking forward to going on more random adventures with my wife and young daughter!
About Me
I currently am a stay at home dad during the day and tutor in the evenings and weekends. I have my Master's degree in public policy and am hoping to start a career in nonprofit fundraising or grant writing while continuing to tutor part time.
Experience
I have been tutoring for over ten years through the University of Michigan-Dearborn and through clients I found privately. I started out tutoring math when I was a high school senior and fell in love with helping people and have continued to do it ever since. I am looking forward to working with more students and instilling them with the confidence that they can succeed in their school work.
Approach
I was lucky that growing up both my dad and brother were especially great at explaining difficult school concepts to me. When I had trouble, I needed an explanation different than what the teacher offered in class. I bring that philosophy to tutoring. Some people are better learners when they write information down, others are better at hearing it, some need to see a visual representation, and even others learn better by having plenty of examples. I find what works best for my students.

In college, history was one of my two degree minors so I took and excelled in several other classes. I have tutored many students in both college and high school in history mainly focusing on pulling out key themes from the material and clarifying the significance of definitions and events.
Literature Tutoring
I excelled in all my English classes in college and high school looking at literature because I am great at reading comprehension and pulling out broader themes from written material. I have tutored mostly high school students in this subject because I had not always read the books the college students were reading. As long as it's material I am either familiar with or I can read quickly I can tutor in it.

I had to work hard to get better in this class and I feel it made me a better tutor for this material because I know what it was like to not immediately understand it. Microeconomics was a core class towards my Masters degree and I have helped tens of people improve their ability in the subject.
Philosophy Tutoring
In college, I received an A in my Introduction to Philosophy class that involved supporting and critiquing the arguments of several philosophers. I have helped several students make it through this class with better grades.
Psychology Tutoring
I took and received an A+ in my introduction to psychology as a natural science class in college that focused on several topics like learning about how the different parts of the brain learn and function. We also learned about the evolution of theories on how the brain works. I have only tutored in the subject a few times but I feel confident I can help someone with the material.

Reading comprehension is my greatest skill and why I feel I have been successful in school. I have helped almost every student I have ever tutored with some form of reading comprehension.
Sociology Tutoring
I have taken and received A grades in three different college level sociology classes. My public policy degree revolves around how government policy will impact the world. Study Skills Tutoring
Studying is the true key to success in school and knowing how to do it effectively can both save time and lead to a greater mastery of more material. My methods allow a student to reread through the chapters in the book quickly and to memorize definitions more effectively.
Writing Tutoring
Almost every class I had in undergraduate college involved writing at least a 3-5 page paper, with classes like my two composition classes requiring more. In graduate school, I needed to write a 10-16 page paper for every class. Homework Coach Tutoring
Helping with homework is a key task for a tutor. It is important to be able to assist on homework without simply giving away the answers. Then, I tell them what they did well and what they needed to improve to get the right answer if they did not.
