Fun Facts

I love to read, write, and travel. I come from a very large family and, naturally, I love being around large groups of people. I love spending time outdoors and being close to water, and I have a passion for fitness and tasty food, obviously a terrible combination.

About Me

In my most recent previous position I served as an Adult Basic Education Math Instructor in Detroit. I graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in April of 2017 with Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and I minored in African and African American Studies. I have a passion for understanding the ways that sociology and psychology have an effect on students’ ability to excel in mathematics. And I love helping people!

Experience

I have been tutoring mathematics ever since I was in middle school and I continued to do so while in college. I have assisted students with learning a wide range of subjects including Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Geometry, Middle School math and more. In my previous position, I served as an Adult Basic Education Math Instructor for a company in Detroit and I assist students get prepared for Workforce readiness exams and the GED exam.

Approach

I start by acknowledging students’ strengths and making sure each student understands that there are some things that they are good at. I then seek to understand why students are struggling and what each individual is struggling with. My goal is to incorporate the things that students struggle with in topics that students understand, and to draw similarities between the two if they exist.

Calculus I Tutoring

I took Calculus 1 as an undergraduate student and received an A. I have tutored this subject in some magnitude almost every semester since, Calculus is actually one of my areas of mathematics. Calculus was directly related to my degree overall because it helped me understand that all problems can be solved in multiple ways.

College Algebra Tutoring

The content of College Algebra is the same as the algebra classes that I took in high school (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2). I received an A in all three courses and have served as a tutor for all three courses, both in high school and in college. I currently teach Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 as part of an adult education class. I love this class because it equips students with the foundation that is necessary to excel in other math subjects.

Math Tutoring

I have a broad understanding of mathematics in general. I have studied topics from Pre-Calculus to Advanced Linear Algebra, I have also tutored many of these subjects. My degree is in mathematics so the bulk of the courses that I have taken relate to math in some way.

Pre Calculus Tutoring

I have taken this class in the past and have received an A. I have successfully tutored numerous students in Pre Calculus, some of my students even earn an A. This class helped solidify my love of calculus and helped my get a better understanding of the structure of the subject.

Spanish I Tutoring

I have studied Spanish for 5 years in total, three years in high school and two years in college. I received grades of both As and Bs in the subject. My interest in Spanish stems from my interest in helping students learn that are unlike myself. My goal is to help as many students as possible learn mathematics.

Algebra Tutoring

I completed an algebra course in high school and received a grade of an A. I have been tutoring varying levels of algebra since I was 16 and I am currently an instructor for an Adult Education course that includes topics from algebra. I have a passion for algebra as it helps to lay the foundation for many other advanced mathematics topics.

Algebra II Tutoring

I completed an Algebra II course in high school and received a grade of an A. I have been tutoring varying levels of algebra since I was 16 and I am currently serve as a tutor for GED preparation which includes topics from Algebra II. I have a passion for algebra in general as it helps to lay the foundation for many other advanced mathematics topics.

Calculus Tutoring

I began learning Calculus in high school and continued to do so throughout my undergraduate career. Calculus is by far one of my favorite topics in mathematics and, in my opinion, is one of the most useful topics covered. I received both As and Bs in my calculus courses and have tutored some level of calculus since I was a high school student.

My love of geometry stems from learning the see the things that I learned in the classroom in the real world. I took geometry in high school and received a grade of a B. I loved the course because it taught me so much about things that I thought I already knew and really helped me understand the various ways to related things to each other.

I have a broad understanding of mathematics in general. I have studied topics including Advanced Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Complex Variables, Abstract Algebra and more. I have also served as a tutor for Complex Variables and Abstract Algebra. My degree is in mathematics so the bulk of the courses that I have taken relate to math in some way.

Pre Algebra Tutoring

I began learning about Pre-Algebra in middle school and continued to see its consequences throughout my future studies. I currently serve as a math instructor for an Adult Basic Education program which encompasses teaching students Pre-Algebra. I have tutored Pre-Algebra more times than I can count and each time I learn to love the subject even more.

Middle School Math Tutoring

I have experience tutoring topics including fractions concepts, statistics, algebraic expressions, order of operations and much more. I currently teach middle school math to some of my students that are a part of an Adult Education program. I have a passion for teaching these topics because they assist in understanding more difficult concepts.

Elementary Math Tutoring

I have experience tutoring topics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place values, shapes and more. I currently teach elementary school math to some of my students that are a part of an Adult Education program. I have a passion for teaching these topics because they are skills that students will always have to know how to use.
